Best of Metro Transit Archives (2016 Edition)

Image
Hello everyone: It's time again to welcome a new year and look back on the previous one. For Metro Transit Archives, 2016 was a slow year, travel wise, something that will be rectified in 2017. During the year,  improvements on camera equipment and an improved, patient and planning eye, captured some great images of transportation in all four seasons. Below are what is considered the top twenty photos taken in 2016. Enjoy 1) Holiday fun in New York with iconic GM Fishbowl #5227 in Times Square   2) A well-timed photo of a WMATA 7000 series railcar in Alexandria, Virginia    3) Maximum turn by SEPTA Novabus #7464 in Center City Philadelphia   4) The beginning of 30 inches of snow captured by MTA Maryland New Flyer #04106   5) MTA Bus New Flyer Xcelsior in its bright new wrap in Jamaica, Queens, New York   6) DC Circulator New Flyer Xcelsior with flags flying in Downtown Washington DC 7) Now arriving...SEPT...

Metro Transit Archives After Dark: Prime Time (So.Cal Style)

Image
Evening Everyone: Today, I'm bringing back the Metro Transit After Dark series. In late 2014, I purchased a fixed Nikon 35mm Prime lens. One of the features was a wider 1.8f stop to allow more light into the camera, particularly when taking photos at night. After some trial and error, I got the hang of it. In August 2015, I spent my birthday in Los Angeles and was able to take full advantage of the possibilities with the lens. Here are 17 photos I took with that lens at night. Some of my favorite photos I took all year. Enjoy!! LA Metrobus Xcelsior unloads outside Hollywood & Vine Red Line Station A NABI 45C and New Flyer XN40 each at the ending and beginning of their respective routes Passengers asking for information helps this photo taken at Hollywood & Highland A Route 212 operator helps this passenger with billboards and tourists surround them A Route 217 bus, at the beginning of its route, pauses to load passengers in heavy traffic On ...

Before BaltimoreLink...there was GBBI

With MTA's BaltimoreLink project on the horizon, it seemed appropriate to look back at the last major network project, which celebrates 11 years today. On October 23rd, 2005, GBBI or Greater Baltimore Bus Improvement Project was launched, cancelling several lines, merging others, and all but eliminating buses terminating in Downtown Baltimore. During the week leading up to the changeover and beyond, I took photos of all the line affected, which you will see below. Since 2005, only a few lines have resurfaced but most of the changes are still in effect...well until June 2017. *Note: These are scans of slides so the quality isn't as good as the original photo  0227 at Bullneck Road Loop in Dundalk on the 10. The 10 would be combined with the 2 in GBBI 0243 is the after with the "2" running on Lombard instead of Fayette The 2/10 was supposed to help riders get used to the change before the line officially became the 10. Here is 0244 at the Baltimor...
