Ready, Set, Go!! (Baltimore Marathon Edition)

Taking a break from the past, today was the annual Baltimore Marathon AKA Baltimore Running Festival that clogged the streets of Baltimore for most of the day. With detours abound, I got some exercise myself and covered what services were operating.

Here are some of the goodies. Enjoy!

The calm before the storm...12043 at Mondawmin Subway Station

9028 on Route 7. This line ended in Downtown but went no further. The community of Canton had no bus service for most of the day.

The operator of 5016 is telling passengers how to connect to services beyond Downtown. Many lines used the highway and avoided the Central Business District completely. Route 23 was one of them.

Some operators used "Route Diverted" in their signs to warn riders of the forced transfer. Here is 9003 is a perfect fall bloom.

Many lines were detours onto other streets because of the race. Route 91 was one of many. Although the sign says City Hall, it went only two blocks into Downtown, a far cry from its terminus.

Another line interrupted was Route 13. Here is Coach #4101 busting a right turn on its brief run.

Despite the many bus detours, Rail transit like the Light Rail and Metro system was unaffected by it and operated on time.

Here is #5036 on its temporary layover. Behind it is the East Baltimore skyline of row house and liquor stores.

Lines like Route 8 were broken up into two or three segments. Here Xcelsior 11020 is heading inbound although the sign is set for its return trip, only 15 blocks away from this photo.

Coach #11008 pass the Baltimore City Jail closely behind 11020. Both buses were packed full of riders.

Coach #9086 with part of the Downtown Baltimore skyline is heading outbound for its short trip. Brought to you in Black and White.

Even the Johns Hopkins University shuttle was on a detour. This Gillig is a 1996 model from Northern California.

The above destination sign on 9096 is actually a terminus for a local High School but with no signs installed for this once-a-year event, the operator had to make due.

Finally, about 2:30pm, the race was over and some service resumed Downtown. Here is coach #12028 on Route 20 near City Hall and the main police headquarters.

Hoped you enjoyed.
