Winter Service Change In-Depth Analysis

LocalLink Version


The second of three posts will be on the changes which affect the LocalLink routes, that start this upcoming Sunday, February 3rd, 2019.

There were changes on 36 LocalLink routes. They are listed below, courtesy of the MTA website:

  • LocalLink 21, 22, 26, 28, 29, 30, 31, 33, 34, 36, 37, 51, 53, 54, 56, 59, 62, 63, 65, 67, 69, 70, 71, 73, 75, 76, 77, 78, 80, 81, 82, 85, 87, 91, 94, and 95
The majority of those routes received added time in most periods, while others received re-calibrations, in which the timing was balanced. Below will focus on added or modified trips for some of the LocalLink lines during Weekdays, Saturdays, and Sundays.

LocalLink 36: Towson to Fox Ridge
During the midday, headways were decreased from every 50 minutes to every 40 minutes to improve reliability and rider convenience.

LocalLink 54: State Center to Carney/Hillendale
In the early evening, a new trip from State Center leaving at 6:21pm bound for Hillendale was added and the next trip's departure time was changed from 6:32pm to 6:39pm to improve reliability and rider convenience.

LocalLink 63: Downtown to Tradepoint Atlantic
The biggest change occurs on the LocalLink 63, which serves multiple businesses in the Southeast Baltimore Community business district. In order to better accommodate shift times at Amazon and other businesses at Tradepoint, several trips were added in the morning and afternoon rush, as well as increased service in the midday to Downtown Baltimore. Trips on the weekends were added in a similar fashion. All new trips are identified by a dot.

As previously mentioned, weekend service on the 63 received several new trips and an earlier start time from Downtown Baltimore. Please note that Saturday and Sunday service is identical.

LocalLink 67: Downtown to Marley Neck
To better support Under Armour shift times, a new trip from Marley Neck was added, departing at 11:00pm for Downtown Baltimore. Also, some trip times from Marley Neck were changed but only by a few minutes.

LocalLink 77: West Baltimore MARC to Catonsville
To improve reliability and accommodate for the present construction along the Edmondson Avenue Bridge, trip times were changed and the headway decreased from every 25-30 minutes to every 20 minutes between 3:15pm and 5:55pm in both directions. Three additional trips (2 from Catonsville and 1 from West Baltimore MARC) was added during this period.

LocalLink 78: Downtown to CMS
Service improvements on the 78 include midday service decreasing from every 20-25 minutes to every 20 minutes between 9am-3pm, as well as 15 minute service starting earlier at 3:15pm, instead of 3:51pm currently.

LocalLink 80: Rogers Avenue Metro to Downtown 
A pair of trips were added early Saturday Morning, one at 3:00am from Rogers Station and one at 4:10am from City Hall to provide connections for riders along Garrison Blvd and Edmondson Avenue into Downtown Baltimore.

LocalLink 82: Park Circle to Reisterstown Plaza Metro
For the LocalLink 82, trip times and headways were decreased, particularly on the weekends, which varied from 27 minutes to 45 minutes, to every 35 minutes, to improve reliability and rider convenience.

LocalLink 85: Milford Mill Metro to Penn-North Metro
To improve reliability, trip times on the 85 were modified as well as additional time given in both directions. 
Trips from Penn-North Metro will depart seven minutes earlier than the current schedule, which starts at 6:12am and ends at 6:27pm. Trips will now leave at :05, :20, :35, and :50 after the hour between 6:05am and 6:35pm. 
Trips from Milford Mill will depart three minutes earlier than the current schedule, starting at 6:10am and ending at 6:30pm. Trips will now leave at :07, :22, :37, and :52 after the hour between 6:07am and 6:23pm.

LocalLink 87: Owings Mills Metro to Glyndon
Afternoon trips on the 87 have been updated to provide improved reliability, rider convenience, and better connectivity with Metro SubwayLink. Trips beginning at 3:05pm will operate every 30 minutes until 7:05pm, and trips from Glyndon will operate every 30 minutes from 3:45pm to 7:45pm.

  LocalLink 91: Sinai Hospital to Mondawmin
Trip times for the LocalLink 91 were modified to provide improved reliability during the rush hour periods. Also, an additional supplemental school service was added to accommodate students at Kipp Academy on Greenspring Avenue (more on that in the next post).

The History of Metro Transit Archives Part II (2003-2006)

Continuing on with Part II... It is January 2003 and my hometown transit system, MTA Maryland has taken delivery of 99 Neoplan Low Floors (0200-0299, except 0220, which was destroyed in an accident) Here is 0208, fresh from delivery on January 20th, 2003. Baltimore's second foray into the Low Floor Industry, these buses helped to retire the 1984 (8400) and 1985 (8500) series, although some held on due to an emergency that took place later that year. 8504 at Mondawmin Metro Station, June 2003 In the summer of 2003, MTA instituted a Light Rail Shuttle program that took the better of two years to complete. Metro Transit Archives After Dark: Prime Time (So.Cal Style)

Evening Everyone: Today, I'm bringing back the Metro Transit After Dark series. In late 2014, I purchased a fixed Nikon 35mm Prime lens. One of the features was a wider 1.8f stop to allow more light into the camera, particularly when taking photos at night. After some trial and error, I got the hang of it. In August 2015, I spent my birthday in Los Angeles and was able to take full advantage of the possibilities with the lens. Here are 17 photos I took with that lens at night.
