Winter 2020 Service Change In-Depth Analysis

This post will cover changes for Winter 2020 start Sunday, February 2nd


The focus here will be changes to the CityLink brand routes. The LocalLink, Express BusLink, and School trippers will be covered in another post. 

To continue improving on service reliability, all CityLink, LocalLink, and Express BusLink routes have received updated schedules for this service change. They are listed below, courtesy of the MTA website:
  • CityLink Blue, Brown, Gold, Green, Lime, Navy, Orange, Pink, Purple, Red, Silver and Yellow
  • LocalLink 21, 22, 26, 28, 29, 30, 31, 33, 34, 36, 37, 38, 51, 52, 53, 54, 56, 57, 59, 62, 63, 65, 67, 69, 70, 71, 73, 75, 76, 77, 78, 80, 81, 82, 83, 85, 87, 89, 91, 92, 94, and 95
  • Express BusLink 103, 104, 105, 115, 120, 150, 154, 160, and 164
  • Supplemental Service for Select Baltimore City Public Schools on S4
All lines received added running time in most places or re-calibrated running time, in which the timing was balanced. Below will focus on added or modified trips for the affected CityLink lines during Weekday service. 

CityLink Blue:
Trip times have changed on Weekdays. 10-minute service has been expanded to start earlier from CMS, beginning at 5:43am, instead of 6:20am currently. While 10-minute service continues an half-hour later, ending at 9:03am, instead of 8:33am currently. This includes a new trip, departing at 8:53am from CMS.
10-minute service in the PM starts more than an hour earlier, beginning at 2:03pm, instead of 3:22pm.This includes a new trip, departing at 2:40pm.

For trips beginning from Hopkins Bayview, 10-minute service still starts at 5:30am, but now ends at 9:03am, instead of 8:19am currently. This includes a new trip, departing at 8:40am
10-minute service in the PM starts 20-minutes earlier at 2:30pm and ends just after 6pm.

The evening service has vastly improved, going from 12-36 minutes, to an even 20-minute frequency until 11:16pm.
In addition, the 11:16pm trip from Hopkins Bayview, will now connect MARC train passengers that ride the last trip from Washington DC, that transfer at West Baltimore MARC as it is the last bus to CMS.

CityLink Brown:
 
For the Winter service change, trips from White Marsh, will depart 8 minutes later in the PM peak only. All other trips will remain virtually the same. Service in the trunk between Overlea and Downtown will stay at every 10-minutes.

CityLink Orange:
New trips were added and run time re-calibrated to improve reliability and rider convenience. On weekdays, starting at 4:30am, trips from Fox Ridge will operate every 15-minutes to 5:30am, when 10-minute service will begin. This includes added trips at 5:15am, 5:50am, 6:10am and 6:30am.

For service starting at West Baltimore MARC, the headway will improve from 30 minutes to 20-25 minutes, leading into AM rush. This includes a new trip, departing at 5:10am.
