Tripper Tuesday: Boston (Part II)
Welcome to Tripper Tuesday here at Metro Transit Archives. Today, we will continue with part II from my Boston trip. Highlighted will be Saturday service with a shuttle operation thrown in-between so sit back, relax, and enjoy the ride.
First up is coach #0635 working the Red Line Shuttle from Alewife to Harvard outside Watertown Square
The operator of 0712 grabs a quick refreshment while I snap this photo of his coach
Malden Orange Line Station with a slew of New Flyer D40LFs
A Forest Hills bound Orange line train arrives on track 2
The outbound 104 bus is seen leaving Sullivan Square Station with a half-lit T sign in the corner
0721 loads up passengers bound for Cleveland Circle on Route 86
An outbound Breda Type 8 in-between station on its way to Cleveland Circle
A solo type 8 is seen climbing a hill on one of the more scenic stretches of the C line
My personal favorite stop is here where the C has its own right of way
Here Kinki-Sharyo Type 7 #3714 is the leader of this two-pack as is usually done with Green Line cars
The 3600s have the distinction of being in three different schemes. One affectingly called the rust bucket scheme and this one, one a bit more modern and greener.
As most know, gas prices are down but in November, they were hovering around $3.00 a gallon as seen with NABI CNG #2181 passing it by on this clear day
While 3653 above is in deep green, 3651 is closer to the original scheme and in need of a update
The ramp outside Harvard Square tunnel is a photographer's paradise. Especially in the afternoons as shown by this shot of Neoplan Trackless Trolley #4101
Even though it was a Saturday, Red Line service was busy enough to warrant using up to 35 buses for the four stops between Harvard Square and Alewife.
MBTA is in the process of rehabbing their 2004 & 2005 Neoplans. Here is one of the more recent rehabs in Cambridge.
Meanwhile, 0482 is looking a little beat up and may be next on the list for rehab...
Now considered a very rare sighting, 1995 Novabus RTS 0363 is seen working on the Red Line Station outside Davis Square Station.
This photographer gets the "death stare" from the blonde on the right as a Red Line train approaches Park Street Station
As darkness approached, this was my money shot. A Boston University Novabus with a NABI CNG behind and the Prudential building looming in the background.
